Ashanti: government announces construction of five exchanges

The Minister of Roads, Mr. Kwasi Amoako-Atta, has said that the Akufo-Addo government has built more roads in the Ashanti region than any administration.

Amoako-Atta has therefore rejected claims that the ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) has failed to build roads in the region, which turns out to be the party’s stronghold.

Addressing the media after touring some ongoing projects in the region, Amoako-Atta touted the government’s achievement in the road sector, describing them as unprecedented, and announced that five more interchanges will be built in the region.

The completion of these projects, according to the minister, is expected to alleviate the vehicular traffic experienced at major intersections within the region.

According to him, the roundabouts at Oforikrom, Bekwai, Ahodwo, Suame and Santasi have been identified as areas that the exchange projects will impact.

“I want to assure the people of this region that development programs in Ghana as a whole will be analyzed in their entirety and that each region will get its first slice of the national pie, but the Ashanti region will never be disappointed and their interest will not be at stake with regard to the highway sector. The Ashanti region will always have its fair share of the national pie, ”Amoako-Atta said.

“I have the privilege of leading that sector on behalf of President Akufo-Addo. So while I look at the whole situation, there is no way for me to joke around and play games with the Ashanti region. If you look at the asphalt overlay, we started with a 227 kilometer plan for the Ashanti region. As I speak, we have completed 174 kilometers, ”he added.

Second year of roads

During the 2021 State of the Nation Address (SONA), President Akufo-Addo reiterated that 2021 will be the second year of roads.

“Our roads are being built at a faster rate than before, and yes, there are still many miles to build. We define last year as the year of the roads. This year will be the second year of roads as we continue our focus on dealing with deficits in our road infrastructure, ”said Akufo-Addo.
