The Election Commission has denied the Ashaiman MP’s claims that his name, as well as 21,000, is not on the new voter roll.

The EC Director of Public Affairs, Sylvia Annoh, refuted Mr. Ernest Norgbey’s claim in her rebuttals in the media.

After the accusations of the opposition legislator, images of the details of his registration have appeared.

Ms Annoh said that even if Norgbey and the alleged 21,000 missing names could not be traced, those voters could simply go through the inclusion process to be added to the list assuming they are not among those who made multiple registrations or violated the requirements. registration regulations.

Mr Norgbey had previously said: “I was not concerned when my name was not there because I know there could be a mistake of that nature.

“But I quickly asked my people to check all the centers.

“The total number of people registered in the registry that was displayed, when they brought the figures, juxtaposing them with the ones we had, we realized that 21 thousand people were missing from the registry,” he told reporters.

The EC began the electoral roll display exercise on Friday, September 18, 2020.

The fiscal year ends on September 25, 2020.

To make the exercise easier than it used to be, the EC has introduced a short message service (SMS) platform to allow registered voters to access their registration data.

The abbreviated code, 1422, will be activated during the entire exhibition period.

To access registration details, voters would have to text their voter identification card number to the short code.

The eight-day exercise is to give registered voters the opportunity to authenticate their personal information.

Speaking to journalists at a press conference on Thursday, September 17, 2020, EC President Jean Mensa said: “During this exhibition period, physical copies of the 2020 provisional electoral roll will be placed in the 33,367 centers to allow potential voters to verify their details as captured during the registration exercise and will request amendments or insertions when necessary. “

“It is important to point out that all the people who registered in the different district offices must go to the electoral colleges assigned during the exhibition exercise and not to the district offices.

“The Commission will also display a list of exceptions, including the names of registered voters, who have violated the registration exercise regulations.

“People on the exception list cannot vote in the next election.

“The Commission will also show the list of multiples,” he added.

He explained: “It contains names of people who have been involved in multiple registrations and therefore cannot vote in the next election.”

He noted that voters who have already lost their ID cards can still verify their details.

“You can still verify your voter registration information if you can’t find your ID card.

“Once you are registered as a voter, your photo and information will be captured and displayed in the registry.

“Keep in mind, however, that being in possession of the card makes it much easier to verify your details in the registry,” he added.
