Asante Kotoko has presented his new Errea replica jersey to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo at the Flag Staff House on Friday in Accra.

The team was led by the CEO [CEO] of the club, Nana Yaw Amponsah and some members of the management.

However, the 12 members of the Board of Directors were also present at the Flag Staff House led by Dr. Kwame Kyei.

During the visit, President Akufo Addo pledged financial support to the club ahead of its 2020/21 Caf Champions League campaign.

“It is difficult for Ghana football to succeed unless Kotoko does. This has been the case in the past and this is how it should be in the future,” said the president.

“Kotoko plays a very special, beloved and enviable role in the development of Ghana’s sport.

“Clearly it is possible that the government can help the club, these will be temporary measures for a period of time, one or two years. Ultimately, the club should be self-sufficient, generating money to keep the club going.”

“We will put our heads together to see what can be done to help, through the Sports Minister.

“I believe that Ghana should have a strong participation to fly the flag of Ghana,” he concluded.

Asante Kotoko has faced Mauritanian club FC Nouadhibou in the preliminary phase of the 2020/21 CAF Champions League.

The Porcupine Warriors will travel to Mauritania for the first leg against FC Nouadhibou at Stade Cheikha Ould Boïdiya before the Mauritanians travel to Ghana for the second leg at Accra Sports Stadium.
