Asamoah Gyan’s manager Samuel Anim Addo has unequivocally reiterated that the 33-year-old is not thinking of hanging up his boots now.
Gyan hasn’t been part of Black Stars since the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations [Afcon] in Egypt.
The forward lost his Black Stars captaincy before the tournament in Egypt. Kwesi Appiah, who was the team’s coach, appointed Gyan as the team’s general captain with Andre Ayew assuming the leadership role as team captain.
Gyan in a statement confirmed his retirement prematurely but annulled his decision after a presidential intervention.
However, under the supervision of CK Akonnor, Andre Ayew has been retained as the team captain with Thomas Partey and Richard Ofori as deputy captains, but it is not known whether Asamoah Gyan remains as captain general or not.
This has raised questions about the future of the former Sunderland forward’s playing career, but his business manager, Anim Addo, says he is not ready to hang up his boots as soon as possible.
“He [Asamoah Gyan] He has said that when the time comes he will announce it. Many top officials do not want him to leave football now and he does not want to retire now. Much will depend on him when he wants to retire. Players now play until they are forty and their football, which does not matter their age, “Anim Addo told Kumasi based Nhyira FM.
“Gyan is feeling very strong now and has made the decision to play, so he is considering the offers that come his way to decide how many years they will help him. At a time when he feels that he cannot continue with active football, he will duly announce his retirement but is not close to hanging up his boots, “he added.
Gyan has 51 goals in 109 games and looks forward to playing football professionally for years to come.
He began his playing career with Dansoman’s Liberty Professionals before joining Udinese in Italian Serie A in 2003. Gyan went on to represent Modena, Stade Rennes, Sunderland, Al Ain, Shanghai SIPG, Al Ahli Dubai and Kayserispor.
The forward is currently on the hunt for a new club following a temporary contract with Indian team NorthEast United that ended in January.
