The 35-year-old forward talks about his early years with the Royals and his expectations in the Ghana Premier League

Legon Cities star Asamoah Gyan is confident that he will soon find his scoring boots in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) after debuting with the club on Friday.

After 17 years out of the national championship, the veteran forward, Ghana’s all-time top scorer with 51 goals, reappeared as a second-half substitute in a 0-0 draw with Medeama.

As a result, Legon is still looking for his first win of the season, having lost one and drawn two of the three games played so far.

“I’m just enjoying my football, I just want to have fun, I want to help Legon Cities. This is my new club so I just want to play football, ”said Gyan, as reported by Footballghana.

“As a forward, of course, people may be expecting goals from me, but the goals will come.

“We are still working, if you see Legon Cities, I think 85 percent of our players are new, we are still getting to know each other.

“Tactically we are working but I think now we are understanding what we want to do. The technical team has done a great job.

“It has been a short time, but now they are beginning to understand what is at stake. So we hope that the next game will go well.”

In 2003, Gyan scored 10 goals for Liberty Professionals in the GPL before moving on to join Udinese from Italian Serie A.

Since then it has graced the field of Stade Rennais in France, English Sunderland, UAE’s Al Ain and Al Ahli Dubai, Shanghai SIPG Chinese Super League team and Kayserispor in Turkey.

Most recently, he performed for the Indian club NorthEast United, with whom he parted ways in January after a brief stint.

“I am very excited to be back home. This is where the name, Asamoah Gyan started, and it feels great to be back in the league after 17 years, ”Gyan said after Friday’s historic appearance.

“I am very satisfied with the game tonight. Is positive. We have to approach the next game with the same mentality and I think the victories will come soon ”.

Gyan could make his first start for Legon in his match of the fourth week of games with Dreams FC.
