Asamoah Gyan Assesses Legon Cities Ghana Premier League Challenge As Debut Approaches

Legon Cities forward Asamoah Gyan believes the club’s early troubles in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) are partly due to offensive deficiencies as he approaches his debut for the team.

The Ghanaian legend joined The Royals on a one-year deal in October, but had to stake his time to play his first match for the club due to lack of physical form.

Without Black Stars’ all-time scorer, the Accra-based team has been unable to score in open play in two games so far; They relied on a penalty to hold Berekum Chelsea to a 1-1 draw on Matchday 1 before falling 3-0 to the Grand Olympics, prompting manager Goran Barjaktarevic to be dismissed.

“For me, I think it’s something about our attitude,” Gyan told Legon Cities FC TV.

“We were not giving enough and I think the players have agreed with me. We have had a couple of meetings and they all agree with our attitude towards the games. [being a problem].

“It is quite unfortunate that we got a point from two games. It happens, but what we have to do is show our attitude and aggressiveness, that we want to win games.

“This is how we can win games.

“Our preparation game is very slow, we are fighting offensively, we do not create enough opportunities.

“That is what we are working on. It all depends on our training. We are working on our weak points and on everything to be able to exhibit it in the field for the day ”.

Legon have set their sights on their first three points of the season ahead of Friday’s meeting with Medeama at home at Accra Sports Stadium.

Reports say Gyan is likely to appear in the week three tie.

“Yes, anything is possible. We can beat them, [Medeama]”Gyan said about Legon Cities versus Medeama’s chances.

“[It’s about] how we approach the game, how we are willing to play. Tactically, coaches can do their tactics, but mentally, when you’re not there, it won’t work.

“So we have to make sure we go there with the same mindset. We give everything we have and victory can come when we do everything well on the field and are tactically disciplined. With effort too, I think everything will be fine. “

Ghana last kicked a ball in the GPL in 2003 when it was on the Liberty Professionals books.
