Mikel Arteta confirmed that Arsenal took two injuries from injury after their loss to Liverpool, with Kieran Tierney and David Luiz facing spells on the bench.
After watching his team’s season take another turn for the worse, Arteta was forced to admit that the severity of both problems is unknown.
Tierney injured his knee during the clash at the Emirates, while Luiz, who was not fully involved in the match, may even miss a month.
With scores blocked heading into the halftime break, Tierney retired after clearly taking a hit in a challenge with James Milner.
However, the Scottish international flier, in a more positive indication for Arsenal, was able to walk through the tunnel on his own.
“He felt something in his knee and it hurt,” Arteta admitted at his post-match press conference. “He will be injured, but we don’t know for how long.”
Meanwhile, Luiz suffered his own knee problem during the international break, and Arteta has insisted the club will not rule out any potential treatment options.
“There are some possibilities,” Arteta added. ‘We are talking to the doctors to make the right decision. Looks like he might be out for a few weeks.
“It will depend on the decision we make.”
It is unclear if Tierney will be able to participate in Arsenal’s Europa League quarter-final match against Slavia Prague on Thursday.
However, Luiz is certain to be missing and may even see his campaign terminated prematurely depending on his recovery.
Arsenal may fall further back in the dark of the middle of the table this weekend with Aston Villa able to jump to ninth place.
Their quest for European soccer was rebuffed by the champions, who returned home after Diogo Jota’s double and a further effort from Mohamed Salah.
