Arsenal players have been discussing the possibility of Borussia Dortmund star Julian Brandt joining the club, according to reports.
Gunners manager Mikel Arteta is eager to bring in an offensive midfielder in January, with his team handling just 16 league goals so far this season, and recent reports have suggested 24-year-old German international Brandt ranks high on that list.
Real Madrid star Isco, Barcelona youth Riqui Puig and Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia have also been linked, but reports in Germany claim Brandt is tempted to move to the Emirates Stadium.
In quotes published by Sport Witness, Sport Bild reporter Christian Falk said: ‘We know that Arsenal scouts have already made important moves and the club is also actively discussing this in the locker room.
‘We also know that he has connections [at Arsenal], youth director Per Mertesacker has the same agents as him, and he’s a bit tempted to come to London. I imagine very well that it will come true.
“If a transfer is going to take place it’s still a bit open, winter (January) is perhaps too short notice, so it could be something of summer.”
The news comes a few days after The Athletic reported that Brandt had caught the Gunners’ attention even though he has only started six Bundesliga games this season.
The 24-year-old joined Dortmund from Bayer Leverkusen for £ 22.9 million in the summer of 2019 and contributed seven goals and 13 assists in 42 appearances across all competitions in his first campaign.
He hasn’t had the same impact so far this season, managing just one goal and one assist in 22 games, but has now seen himself as a potential recruit with reservations coming from Emirates Stadium regarding the summer goal and the Lyon star. , Houssem Aouar.
Brandt has won 35 games for Germany and has scored three goals since his debut in 2016.
