Well, I think Arsenal’s position is very clear.
Arsenal have had a stellar transfer window so far, but they aren’t looking to stop anytime soon, and rightly so given that the fans love it. They have announced the signings of Cedric Soares, Pablo Mari, Willian, Gabriel Magalhaes and the extension of the loan of Dani Ceballos so far.
But it is well known that Mikel Arteta will remain in the market for more midfield options, despite the fact that Willan and Ceballos are signed. Philippe Coutinho’s name often floats in the media, but a name that has been constant in recent months is Thomas Partey of Atlético de Madrid.
The Ghanaian international is available to the Gunners for his release clause, which is believed to be around £ 45m. Given the economic implications of the Coronavirus pandemic, it is understandable that Arsenal have been trying alternative methods to convince Atlético.
However, the Spanish club continues to insist that it wants the full sum in cash. This was even after, according to the Mirror, Arsenal offered not one but two first-team stars for their services; Alexandre Lacazette and Matteo Guendouzi.
I feel two emotions after hearing this news. One is the great pleasure that Atlético did not accept this offer, because these two players combined are worth much more than £ 45 million, which also confuses me a lot as to why Atlético would reject this, given a direct replacement for Partey in Guendouzi and a player who has interested them for many years, Lacazette.
Still, I suppose that money is the main objective of all clubs at the moment, since they are committed to strengthening their squad with limited resources. Arsenal can only hope for this, but the £ 45m is worth paying, to say the least. Partey is a creative midfielder whose strengths revolve around his progressive passing, so he would be a great addition to Arteta’s project.
Do you think Arsenal will sign Thomas Partey?
