Arsenal are considering a January trade for Sevilla midfielder Joan Jordan to help turn his season around.

The Gunners have struggled this season and are just three places outside the Premier League relegation zone.

And now boss Mikel Arteta has identified the Spaniard as a key target, after tracking his progress for three years, according to The Sun.

Jordan has a £ 55 million buyout clause in his contract, but it is understood that Sevilla would be willing to accept offers of around £ 32 million.

And with their shaky season, Arsenal would be willing to pay that price to bring reinforcements to midfield.

Star signing Thomas Partey has made just four top flight appearances after suffering an injury-stricken season, and his summer partner Dani Ceballos failed to impress.

That has prompted Arteta to demand a recruiting push in January, with Jordan being his main target.

The combative midfielder made 40 appearances for Sevilla after a £ 13 million move from Eibar in 2019, and faced opposition from the Premier League in his team’s run to last season’s Europa League final.

It started in both wins over Wolves and Manchester United when the Spanish team lifted the trophy.

And after an impressive debut campaign, he has established himself as a key member of the Sevilla team this season.

He has appeared in five Champions League games, including two against Chelsea, as Sevilla advanced to the next round.

The Spaniard has helped his club rise to the brink of La Liga’s European qualifying spots, with his leadership skills and dead ball delivery impressing the Gunners.

Jordan is understood to be attracted by the prospect of a move to the Premier League, as well as the opportunity to work with Arteta.

And with an impressive variety of passes and the ability to switch games between the wings, Jordan’s talent has marked him as a solution to Arsenal’s midfield woes.
