Many Arsenal fans were eager to express their joy when academy product Folarin Balogun made history with his first senior goal for the Gunners on Thursday night.

Arsenal sealed qualification for the Europa League knockout rounds with a 3-0 win over Norwegian Molde, with the 19-year-old completing the score. The forward came off the bench and was superbly groomed by young academy teammate Emile Smith Rowe as he finished serenely on his first appearance in the game.

Arsenal have excelled with Mikel Arteta in European competition this season, having won all their group matches so far.

Despite the early warning signs of a goalless first half in Norway, it was the actions of the youngsters that made the headlines in the European competition. Other notable performances from youth players saw Joe Willock set up two goals, while fellow academy graduate Reiss Nelson also found the net.

Although fans were unable to witness Balogun’s moment of impact in Norway, many fans at home cheered for him as they used Twitter to express their joy at the young man’s historic evening.

One fan called him a “serious young talent,” while another demanded that Twitter add a blue check mark to his account, a feature it currently lacks:

Will Balogun sign a new contract with Arsenal?
