Arsenal defender Gabriel tested positive for coronavirus after missing the Gunners’ recent Premier League clash against Chelsea.

The Brazilian was absent when Arsenal beat Chelsea 3-1 on Saturday because they began a period of self-isolation after coming into close contact with someone who had tested positive for Covid-19.

Arsenal confirmed on Monday that Gabriel has also tested positive, meaning he will miss at least two more games.

Mikel Arteta’s side, currently ranked 14th in the Premier League, will face Brighton on Tuesday and West Brom on Saturday.

“Gabriel tested positive for COVID-19 and is isolating himself according to UK government and Premier League protocols,” Arsenal said in a statement.

“We will continue to monitor and support Gabriel, and we hope that he will be available again after our next two games.”

23-year-old Gabriel has made a big impression on Arsenal after his move from French club Lille last summer, making 15 appearances for the club in all competitions.
