The OneGhana Movement calls for the arrest and prosecution of people whose violent activities led to the deaths of five people on election day and after.

In a press release, the group said it is concerned about the numerous reports of damage and violence that marred the otherwise peaceful elections.

According to the OneGhana Movement, most of the violence and acts of impunity have been perpetrated by civilians.

“We call on the authorities, especially the police, to arrest and prosecute the perpetrators of violence and violations of various electoral laws and regulations.”

This, the organization explained, will serve as a deterrent to others who would attempt such actions in the future.

Citing incidents that need investigation, One Ghana highlighted four regions where some casualties were recorded.

Currently, two people from Awutu Senya East in the Central Region are receiving treatment after suffering gunshot wounds.

Six people from Odododiodio, in the Greater Accra region, are also in hospital after being hit by bullets. Two others, sadly, passed away.

In Ablekuma West, also in the Greater Accra region, four people, including a police officer, who were injured during the collection of results, are in hospital.

Two people were killed at Techiman South in the Bono East region during a shooting. Four of the victims are in the hospital.

Finally, in the Northern Region, one person died while three others were rushed to hospital after being injured during a shooting.

They were part of a group of party loyalists who were jubilant after the election results were announced.

“We demand an independent investigation into the circumstances that led to the deaths of the five people, as well as the 17 injuries.”

“The IGP should update citizens on decisions made on similar offenses recorded during the voter registration exercise,” added OneGhana Movement.
