The officer, according to Citi News, who has since been detained by the police, was reported following the incident that occurred on October 21, 2020.

According to a police memorandum, the detained officer, Corporal Philip Addo of the Akropong Divisional Police Command, is said to have been on night duty at the compound.

It is alleged that Lance Corporal Addo reported to work at the main entrance to the complex and observed the presence of the 30-year-old security guard, now deceased, Stephen Adu, who was sleeping nearby.

Addo narrated to police that in his attempt to wake Stephen Adu from his sleep, his AK 47 service rifle “accidentally went off”, resulting in injuries to the security guard.

Since then, Stephen Adu’s body has been sent to Accra Police Hospital for a new autopsy while the suspect, Philip Addo, is currently in police custody.

Aqua Safari Resort management has not yet officially responded to the incident at the time of this report.
