Apostle Kwabena Owusu Adjei of the Hezekiah Prayer Ministry, who allegedly threatened to cause the death of Jean Mensa, chairman of the Election Commission, has not been reporting to the police.

Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Sylvester Asare briefed an Accra circuit court when the matter was called.

Therefore, ASP Asare prayed to the court to review the bail conditions of the defendants.

However, the court chaired by Mr. Emmanuel Essandoh said that “for the benefit of the doubt” it would give the defendant some time to determine the veracity of the prosecution’s claims.

The Court had granted a bond of 100,000 GHC to Apostle Adjei and, as part of the conditions of the bond, it was required to provide three bonds, two of which would be civil servants earning at least 2,000 GHC per month.

The accused was ordered to report to the police twice a week. The Court further ordered Adjei to deposit his passport with the Court Registry.

Adjei accused of death threat, illegal possession of narcotic plants, assault on a public official, has pleaded not guilty.

The case of the prosecution was that the complainant, Mrs. Jean Mensah, on June 5 of this year, informed the Police that while she was acting in the fulfillment of her statutory duties as Electoral Commissioner, Adjei threatened to cause her death.

ASP Asare said on June 9 this year that intelligence led to the arrest of Adjei at the Greda Estate in Teshie while he was giving an interview to a team of journalists in connection with a video made by him on social media.

He said that the defendant in said video threatened to cause the death of Ms. Mensah.

Subsequently, the Prosecution said that a search conducted in Adjei revealed an infinix 5 mobile phone, a black wallet containing GHC 29.00 and a voter identification card.

He said that “a brown fanny pack containing, among other things, was also found on the accused; a mobile charger, two alleged aphrodisiacs labeled Mr. Q, a steaming brown XL paper, and two substances wrapped in brown from dried leaves suspected of being a narcotic plant. ”

The prosecution said that after the inventory was taken, Adjei admitted ownership.

Meanwhile, investigations revealed that in the past four years, Adjei accompanied a group that occasionally visited an orphanage called Jehovah Rapha Foundation located in Suhum to make donations.

The prosecution said that in order to facilitate the commission of “this crime and also put the complainant in fear of death, on June 4, 2020, the defendant and five others, including a presenter from the Otumfuo television station , disguised as a donation, they visited the orphanage to donate some items that included cooked rice and masks. ”

The prosecution said subsequent investigations revealed that Adjei, while in the orphanage with the group, made a video of himself and in the video threatened to cause the death of Jean Mensah.

According to the prosecution, a careful analysis of the video revealed the use of abusive, threatening and insulting language against the complainant.

Some of the insults include “stupid Jean Mensah, idiot, silly, you are crazy, stupid girl Akuffo”.

The prosecution said Adjei’s video was circulated on social media and that on June 9 this year it was located at the Greda Estate in Teshie.

The prosecution said that on June 17 of this year the dried leaves were sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory.

He said that on June 22 this year, the dry leaf lab result came back positive for “Delta-9 tetrahydro cannabinol and cannabinol.

The Prosecutor’s Office said that the Police are waiting for the transcript report of the video of the accused.

The matter was postponed until Monday, November 16.
