Manchester United striker Anthony Martial left the club’s training ground after just 11 minutes on Monday morning after failing to recover from illness.
Martial was supposed to be on the team for United’s 3-2 win over Southampton on Sunday, but had to stay at the team’s hotel due to contracting the disease the night before.
According to the Manchester Evening News, the Frenchman showed up to train at the Carrington training complex, but was sent straight home due to not being fit enough to train.
It means he is unlikely to play a role in the team’s Champions League game against Paris St Germain on Wednesday, where one point will be enough to qualify for the knockout stages.
It’s the continuation of a frustrating season so far for the 24-year-old. He couldn’t find the back of the net in the league this season, this after scoring 17 times last season.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s disabled list begins to pile up, with goalkeeper David de Gea retired at halftime on Sunday with a knee injury after hitting the post.
Alex Telles is also a doubt after he was slightly injured against Southampton, but the United manager looks forward to welcoming Paul Pogba and Scott McTominay, while Jesse Lingard has returned to full training.
Solskjaer revealed the reason for his absence at St Mary’s and also explained his starting lineup.
He told the United website: ‘Anthony got sick during the night, so he’s alone in the hotel, poor boy. So that’s the reason why Ant isn’t playing.
‘Edinson (Cavani) played well midweek, but we felt Mason (Greenwood) needed a game to start too.
