Andy Cole warned that it could be TWO YEARS before Manchester United return to the top.
United legend Cole believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can return the club to its former glories, but insists it will take a long time to match players like Liverpool and Manchester City.
But Cole insists that when they return to the top, they will remain there and dominate for years as they did in their heyday with Sir Alex Ferguson.
When asked how long it would take for United to get back to the top, Cole said: “Two years. You saw the game on Sunday, Manchester City and Liverpool, that is the level that Manchester United has to reach and that is not going to happen next season.
“Everything is a process. It’s about consistency. In football there is consistency and trust, and if you put those things together, football will not change.
“You have to be consistent on that as well. The coach always said that if you had eight or nine playing well, of course, you can take the equipment. If everyone is playing well, who is going to beat them? You need that belief.
“We used to beat the teams in the tunnel. They would like to keep us calm for 20 minutes, but we would like to score two in the first 20 minutes and from there, anything is possible.
“It will take two years because you have to add players, improve, add two or three players and really improve the team. That’s where you find consistency.
“Ole is a Manchester United legend and of course he knows what it takes. I hope you have all the time you need. When United does it well, it does it well and dominates because it did it well ”.
