The Jack Army boss was impressed by the Ghanaian’s performance in the opening match of the championship on Saturday.

Swansea City manager Steve Cooper has welcomed Andre Ayew’s contribution to Saturday’s opening day victory over Preston North End.

Deployed at the top alongside Jamal Lowe, the Ghana captain saw 90 minutes of action as the Jack Army achieved a 1-0 win at Deepdale.

Morgan Gibbs-White recorded the winner of the match in the 53rd minute.

“I thought all the attacking players did well. Andre and Jamal ran very hard and put their baseline under a lot of pressure. They didn’t let them play with real composure or quality, “Cooper said after the game, according to his club’s official website.

“I liked each other, I thought we were threatening. Maybe not so much after dialing, but it’s understandable.

“If you think about it, we are only three weeks away from the start of the preseason.

“We are not going to be 100% up to speed, so the fact that we have won here in the conditions we are in at the moment is a huge advantage.”

Ayew’s excellent performance on matchday one comes amid intense speculation about his future at Liberty Stadium.

“It’s definitely a great start, whatever results you get here is good,” Cooper said.

“It’s a really difficult place to come, as you can see from the record they had here last season. They have practically the same squad and the same team and it was tough.

“But I thought our performance was good, in the first half we got into some really good positions and we didn’t capitalize on creating that real scoring opportunity.

“We were entering from the sides, we looked like a threat and we continue like this.

“Like Jake [Bidwell] ago, he moved on, kept doing the right things, came back in with a brilliant play from Andre and Morgan gets into the six-yard box to get the ball in. It was a brilliant team goal.

“It’s a very good start.”

Ayew will look to make his second consecutive league start in the new season when Swansea host Birmingham City in their next game.

Last season, the 30-year-old scored 15 goals in 44 top-flight outings, finishing his term as his club’s top scorer.
