Bechem United on Friday scored late to beat Karela United 2-1 at Fosu Gyeabuor Park in a match from Matchday 6 of the Premier League.

Both teams entered the game with an undefeated record. But it was Bechem United, who started it with the aim of causing discomfort.

Karela United goalkeeper Richard Baidoo was forced to make a save point-blank in the 18th minute after a goal from Hafiz Konkoni.

Bechem United broke the deadlock, one minute into the second half Stephen Owusu headed the ball into the net from a cross. The visitors responded quickly 11 minutes later after Diawusie Taylor brought them to the bonding level.

Stephen Owusu was about to increase Bechem United’s lead in the 64th minute, but his effort was deflected for a goal kick.

Dawusie Taylor came close to scoring his second of the game in 79th minute, only to be denied by Bechem United goalkeeper Prince Asempa.

Bechem United appealed for a penalty in the 84th minute following a hand call into the opponent’s goal area, but referee Maxwell Hanson did nothing of that as he signaled for play to continue.

The game was almost headed for a draw until substitute Listowel Amankona changed history by scoring the winner of the match.

Amankona held on to a rebound and scored coldly in 89th minute to send the home team into wild jubilation.

Karela United have been defeated for the first time this season. As Bechem United continues their unbeaten start to the season with one game less against AshantiGold SC.
