The editor-in-chief of the New Crusading Guide newspaper, Abdul Malik Kweku Baako Jnr, says that all indications show that the elections just ended were free, fair and transparent.

“The position of the EC was that this [election] it was free, fair and transparent. In fact, they have been. I heard CODEO make observations, their reports are here. I have heard observers for the European Union make their case.

“They all reached a certain conclusion, the process was free and fair, in fact transparent,” he said.

Speaking with Samson Lardy Anyenini at Newsfile on Saturday, Mr. Kweku Baako noted that the voting went smoothly despite several acts of violence.

He also praised the processes and equipment purchased by the EC, saying: “The PVDs worked efficiently. The effectiveness of the new technology was vindicated.

“The reason there weren’t many queues was because of the efficiency of the biometric voting machine. Most of them worked, ”he said.

Mr. Kweku Baako said that a representative sample of the Ghanaian media did a fantastic job of constantly monitoring and evaluating the elections by providing citizens with updated reports.

Despite all indications of a credible election as touted by the EC, NDC presidential candidate John Mahama has described the Commission’s verdict as “fictitious and flawed.”

In response, Mr. Kweku Baako stated that the country’s democracy paves the way for people to resolve issues like this in the Court of Justice.

He added that former President John Mahama has been the beneficiary of a similar instance in the 2012 electoral petition.

“That is his opinion, he is entitled to it but fortunately, he knows what to do. You can go to court, we all saw what happened. In fact, that experience has informed the improvement and progress we have made in our electoral architecture, ”he said.
