Former President John Dramani Mahama has mounted new accusations on President Akufo-Addo.
The standard-bearer of the National Democratic Congress has alleged that the president is practicing nepotism while neglecting the interests of the common Ghanaian.
“Akufo-Addo’s ‘economy’ funnels money into his family’s pockets at the expense of Ghanaians,” he said.
Mahama, in an interview with 3 presenters from the Multimedia Group, accused the president of creating investment opportunities only for his family.
“We have a finance minister who is a cousin of the president, whose interest is to collect bonds and his own bank is the broker for these bonds. There is a conflict of interest.
“There is a desire to borrow more because the more you borrow, the more money your bank makes and the more money he makes,” he said.
During the interview, he challenged the administration led by Akufo-Addo to provide an account for borrowed money under the administration of the NPP.
However, Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has countered the former president’s comments.
Responding to Mahama, Dr. Bawumia said that the Akufo-Addo-led administration can boast of massive infrastructure developments in the country during his tenure, unlike the Mahama administration which was dedicated to raising guinea fowl that flew to Burkina Faso and never returned.
In the road sector, Dr. Bawumia noted that the Akufo-Addo government has carried out 751 km of asphalt coating since 2017, which he said is the largest in the country’s history.
The vice president further said that about 46 cocoa roads have been completed since 2017, and he also listed in detail about 51 major road projects that the government has undertaken since 2017.
In addition, Dr. Bawumia mentioned five interchanges that are being built, as well as a total of 79 steel and concrete walkways of which 49 have been completed.
