President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

Move Ghana founder Carl Wilson told Kwabena Agyapong, Frontline host on Rainbow Radio 87.5Fm, that President Akufo-Addo will still win the 2020 presidential election if a runoff takes place.

Mr. Wilson revealed that the incumbent won the presidential election and nothing will change it, but lost the majority seats due to the Ghanaians’ decision to vote “in a skirt and blouse”.

The approach he explained is to ensure checks and balances in the system.

According to him, both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have taken Ghanaians for granted for too long, and in dealing with the cancer of corruption, they chose to vote “skirt and blouse.”

He believed that an independent candidate would be the best for Ghana to run for the presidency, but the independent candidates who opposed it were not credible.

The opposition NDC has argued that the addition of the Techiman South constituency figures could have led to an outright second round as New Patriotic Party (NPP) president-elect Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo would not have obtained the figure for be declared the winner.

A statistician and lecturer at the University of Ghana, Dr. Judge Moses Ahetor, who led the NDC team for the presentation, said the statement was inaccurate.

He argued that the use of the EC’s own figures, the corrections and the declaration of the declaration at the polls should have passed into a second round.

Last week, the EC declared President Akufo-Addo the winner of the 2020 presidential elections without the results of the Techiman South Constituency.

According to Jean Mensa, the electoral body had not yet received the results of the electoral district in the Bono Este region because it was being contested.

At a press conference, Jean Mensa said that after compiling the results at the national level, his team believes that the result of the Techiman South polls will have no effect on the overall result.

But Dr. Ahetor refuted the EC’s claims, saying that if the votes of more than 124,000 were added as stated by the EC, no more than 49% would be awarded to the incumbent and no more than 46% to the opposition leader.

This, he emphasized, would have sent the ballot box to a second round because none of the candidates would have won the required percentage to be declared the winner.

He went on to explain that according to the statement issued by the EC admitting mistakes, Nana Addo’s votes were increased by more than 174 votes while the candidate Mahama was reduced by more than 1000 votes.

He said the EC has since provided three different official figures as the total votes cast in the elections after the declaration was made.

For him, this raises serious concerns, as Ghanaians would wonder which of the figures is correct.

He said that in statistics, the more votes are added to a candidate, the more that of the closest contender is reduced to get an exact percentage.

But Carl Wilson says the incumbent will keep winning if a runoff is organized.

He told the president not to be scared if the ballot boxes were sent to a runoff because he was going to win.

Meanwhile, he has stated that a 2020 polls turnaround could spell doom for the country.
