President Akufo-Addo, on Tuesday, January 19, will open the 72nd annual New Years School and Conference at the University of Ghana in Accra.
The School, which is scheduled for January 19 and 20, will be organized by the School of Continuing and Distance Education of the Faculty of Education of the University of Ghana, with the theme “Building Ghana in the face of global health crises” .
The coordinator / prefect of the school and annual new year’s conference, Mr. Godfried Kudzo Akpanya, made this known on Monday in an interview with the Ghana News Agency in Accra.
He said the annual New Years School and Conference since its inception in 1948, has been the University’s flagship program, always opening at the beginning of the new year and never truncated.
Akpanya said that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, which broke out in 2020, the 72nd Annual New Years Conference and School would focus on global health crises; and added that due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the one-week annual program had been reduced to two days.
He said that the participants would come from all sectors of the economy: health, education, organized labor and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDA).
Mr. Akpanya said the Annual New Years School & Conference, since its inception in 1948, over the years has played a crucial role in community development and capacity building.
He added that the School brought together people from all walks of life to deliberate on current issues of national and international interest.
He noted that the School’s resolutions were presented in a statement to the relevant government and parastatal agencies; which has played a key role in policymaking over the years.
Akpanya said that one of the main challenges facing the organization of the school was funding and called for support from the cooperating institutions.
It also appealed to the Government to provide the New Years Annual School and Conference Secretariat with a vehicle for its operations.
