Everything is set for President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to commission a block of cutting-edge technology at the University of Winneba (UEW) within the next three weeks.
The Block is one of the five infrastructure projects that the Rector will commission at the University.
The ultramodern five-story block has seven conference rooms with capacity for 200 people, a 400-seat auditorium with dressing rooms and preparation, 20 smaller conference spaces, 20 audiovisual rooms, library, cafeteria and ICT center, among other facilities.
Reverend Professor Anthony Afful-Broni, Vice Chancellor of the UEW, announced this at the first session of the 25th UEW Congregation and Virtual Ceremony where 12,716 students graduated and received diplomas, degrees and certificates.
The students graduated from the Winneba, Ajumako, Asante-Manpong and Kumasi campuses.
Of these, 935, representing seven percent, received diplomas, 10,195, representing 80 percent, received degrees, while 1,586 had postgraduate degrees.
The Reverend Professor Afful-Broni said he had been awarded the contract for the construction of 14 conference rooms on the Winneba and Asante-Mampong campuses, each with a 500 capacity space with ancillary facilities such as server rooms for Wi-Fi access -Fi.
Eight of these conference rooms have been completed with six in the North Campus and two in the South, with the remainder in various stages of completion in Winneba, Asante-Mampong and Kumasi.
Work on a new project at the student center is also progressing steadily with 75 percent completion, said Professor Afful-Broni.
He said that the bold steps taken by the Administration brought to fruition the infrastructure upgrade to ensure effective and conducive teaching and learning.
The VC asked graduates to serve with honesty, dedication, passion and patriotism and to live true to the University’s call of service.
“You have done your work with discipline, determination, optimism and perseverance and thank God, these virtues have paid off,” he said.
He expressed optimism that they were well prepared to chart their career paths, as well as the next phase of their professional lives and educational activities.
He applauded the sacrifices and contributions, both individually and collectively, by the university community on COVID-19 to ensure survival, saying it served as a reminder for everyone to be determined not to be derailed by the unexpected.
“In life there will certainly be things that will test our will and character and it is in those moments that we have to stay positive and true to who we are, strive and stay focused and achieve excellence with honesty, humility and respect for others. , be aware of time and be sincere in everything we do, ”he said.
He commended the President and the Ministry of Education for the continued show of interest and support for the University, in particular to strengthen its resilience in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic.
