The National Director of Communications of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has indicated that President Akufo-Addo in 2019 spent an amount of ¢ 65 million belonging to the state on personal things.

Sammy Gyamfi listed a number of corrupt practices in the Akufo-Addo administration, saying the government over-inflated its overseas travel expenses.

He told the press that the president spent the mentioned amount on snacks and trips abroad in nine months.

“Another case of offense and waste of state resources was when President Akufo-Addo, in just nine months in 2019 spent ¢ 650 million on soft drinks and trips abroad in nine months during 2019.”

Minority finance spokeswoman Cassiel Ato Forson revealed in 2019 that speculation about the president’s travel budget came to a halt when the 2020 budget allocation from the Office of Government Machinery was presented on the floor of the House.

The document, he said, gives the breakdown in ¢ 62 million for costs and expenses of trips abroad; ¢ 5.85 million in hotel accommodation and ¢ 1.9 million in supplies.

Commenting on the matter, the NDC Director of Communications said: “This extravagant and lavish lifestyle of the president was funded by scarce state resources that could have been channeled to meet the many needs of the people of Ghana.”

He also stated that “President Akufo-Addo traveled the world in a private chartered jet at a cost of $ 17,000 per hour, including visiting the 2019 Champions League final between his team Tottenham Hotspur and the club of Liverpool football in distant Spain “.

Sammy Gyamfi said Ghanaians should be aware of Akufo-Addo’s “dishonesty” and make informed decisions ahead of the December elections.
