President Nana Akufo-Addo has expressed disbelief at claims made by National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate John Mahama that he (Mahama) initiated the Free Senior High School (SHS) policy.
On Tuesday, while he was touring some constituencies in the Upper East, he stated that “we started the (Free SHS) program and the NPP came and continued it.”
Addressing a meeting in Odorkor on Wednesday, President Akufo-Addo described the statement made by John Mahama as “something that surprised me yesterday.”
According to President Akufo-Addo, when he promised, in the run-up to the 2008, 2012 and 2016 campaigns, “they (John Mahama and the NDC) said that he was deceiving Ghanaians and that it was a vote-buying stunt and that for it to be possible (Free SHS) would take about 20 years ”.
He continued: “Not long ago, he said that if he had ¢ 2 billion GH, he would not use it to pay for school fees, but instead use it for something profitable. Today, he says that he (Mahama) presented Free SHS Are we going to allow the former president to return to power through lies and deception? ”, To which the crowd responded with a big“ no ”.
The president added that the “lies” of the NDC presidential candidate “stem from one thing, and that is that his campaign fails to reach the electorate. He has seen his campaign collapse into confusion, fabrications and now outright lies. “
To the residents of Odorkor in the North Ablekuma constituency, he told to give him and the New Patriotic Party a resounding first-round victory in the presidential elections and an overwhelming majority in parliament.
“I am seeking massive endorsement by the people of Ghana for that plan that is set out in our 2020 manifesto. So this year, I beg you, I don’t want it to ‘boom’. but I want it on ‘boom! boom! boom! ‘”President Akufo-Addo added.
