President Akufo-Addo has expressed his “deepest condolences” to former President Jerry John Rawlings and his family for the loss of Mrs. Victoria Agbotui, mother of the former President.
The president, in a visit to former President Rawlings on Monday, said that the loss of a mother is different from the loss of a father, describing a mother’s love as something different and special.
To comfort the former president, President Nana Akufo-Addo said: “When my mother died, I was Ghana’s Foreign Minister, but I cried like a baby; so I know exactly how you feel. “
The president said that when the news of Madame Agbotui’s death broke, he was in the country doing work, so he called the former president to offer his condolences and promised to visit him personally upon his return.
“I came back to Accra last night and decided to visit it today,” said Nana Akufo Addo.
The father of the Anlo State bench, Ambassador Dan Abodakpi, who is also the chairman of the Central Planning Committee for Mrs. Agbotui’s funeral, in response to the president, said the family was grateful for the show of sincere camaraderie and solidarity. .
Ambassador Abodakpi proceeded to inform the president that Mrs. Agbotui’s funeral will be held on Saturday, October 24 with a non-denominational service on the esplanade of the State House, after which the body will be transferred to Dzelukope for its burial.
President Akufo-Addo, who was accompanied by the Chief of Staff of the Presidency, Madam Frema Osei Opare and Eugene Arhin, Director of Communications for the Presidency, subsequently signed the open condolence book in memory of Madam Agbotui.
