The president ordered the chief of staff to pay special counsel Martin Amidu for his services during his two years in office.

In a letter to Martin Amidu, the Chief of Staff said that President Akufo-Addo acknowledged receipt of a letter communicating Amidu’s decision to resign and accepted his resignation.

He added that “the president has ordered me to make sure that all emoluments and benefits owed to him by law are paid accordingly.”

Amidu’s resignation

Martin Amidu resigned on Monday as Special Prosecutor.

In a four-page letter, he outlined a number of issues, including allegations of the president’s interference in the independence of his office.

He also stated that he and his deputy have not collected or received any emoluments that came with their appointment to the position since 2018.

Now, President Akufo-Addo has ordered the chief of staff to eliminate the two-year back payment in addition to all the emoluments that correspond to him.

Akosua Frema Osei-Opare added that the president has taken due note of the other issues raised in his letter, “and the government will issue a statement responding to them in due course,” the letter says.
