Attorney Kwame Adom Appiah has been appointed District Executive Director of the Sekyere East District Assembly following the removal of Mary Boatemaa Marfo.
Adom Appiah is a losing parliamentary candidate for the Effiduase-Asokore seat in recent parliamentary primaries on the NPP ballot.
Media reports suggest that he was assaulted during the NPP parliamentary primaries when he challenged a voter whose name is not found in the constituency register used for the election.
A press release from the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development on Wednesday indicated that the Ashanti Regional Minister “must act as liaison with the Regional Electoral Commission to carry out the confirmation process for the designated Chief Executive.”
Mary Boatemaa Marfo’s impeachment is believed to have stemmed from recently leaked audio that indicated that she had accused PNP supporters of voting “skirt and blouse.”
She revealed in the leaked audio: “Those of you who are my supporters should use your conscience when voting. If you see me campaigning and mentioning her name [MP] it does not mean that I will vote for him. We must work to reduce his votes so that the President knows that I am not the problem, but that he is the only one. Party rules do not allow me to campaign for an independent candidate, but as far as I am concerned, I will not vote for him. “
She added: “Don’t mention my name, but voting for Afriyie is not possible. If someone asks you, you tell them that you don’t know where I belong. The treatment that this deputy has given us makes it impossible for some of us to vote for him. At the end of the day, your votes will be reduced. “
Meanwhile, Owusu Nkrumah, Mary Boatemaa Marfo’s assistant, has admitted to being the one who recorded it and leaked the audio to the public.
“Yes, I am the source of the leaked tape,” Owusu said on Kumasi-based Akoma FM on Tuesday, September 22.
He added: “I recorded and leaked the tape because Madame Mary Boatemaa, whom I have served for several years, has not treated me fairly.
“I asked him who we should vote for because he wanted to know my position and where to cast my vote, but after several considerations, I let the cat out of the bag because he has not behaved well with me.”
The fired DCE had declined to comment on the allegation.
