President Akufo-Addo has cut the grass for the construction of a Trauma Hospital in Anyinam in the Atiwa East constituency, and a 40-bed District Hospital in Kwabeng in the Atiwa West constituency.
At Anyinam, its first port of call, on Thursday October 1, 2020, President Akufo-Addo was told that the Trauma Hospital has been on the drawing board for more than a decade.
The construction of the Atiwa East Trauma Hospital is being made possible thanks to a fifty-five million euro facility from Deutsche Bank, which will also be used for the construction of three other projects, namely a new Hospital in Obuasi East, the rehabilitation of the Existing Obuasi Government Hospital; and the remodeling of the Enyiresi Hospital.
The Atiwa East Trauma Hospital project will be built by Universal Hospital Group (UHG), a wholly-based Ghanaian company, which has a strong track record of delivering similar infrastructure in parts of the country.
The components of this project are the following: an emergency department with triage, three operating rooms, recovery rooms, resuscitation rooms and a cast room; diagnostic center to include a CT scan, X-ray, fluoroscopy, laboratory, and a blood bank; and outpatient department that includes pharmacy and doctor’s offices.
It will also have a public health department; medical administration; 100 beds in total for inpatient wards, including one orthopedic and trauma ward; 30 beds for other interventions that require temporary stay; staff accommodation; and a morgue.
In Kwabeng, President Akufo-Addo noted that the government has secured funds for the construction and equipping of 12 hospitals with associated staff accommodation facilities for hospital workers, and Kwabeng is one of the beneficiary communities.
An amount of seventy-five million five hundred thousand euros (€ 71.5 million) has been obtained from Erste Group Bank AG and Česká Spořitelna as, for the construction and equipping of these twelve (12) hospitals.
This is covered by an export credit guarantee of eight million six hundred thousand euros (€ 8,612,931.30) from the EGAP of the Czech Republic.
Kwabeng Hospital will be built by VAMED Engineering GmbH of Austria, a world leader in the construction of healthcare facilities, and the other beneficiary communities are Jumapo, Kwabeng, Nkwatia, Achiase and Adukrom in the Eastern Region; Suame, Drobonso, Sabronum, Manso Nkwanta, Twedie in the Ashanti region and; Kpone Katamanso in the Greater Accra Region.
These projects, including the one in Kwabeng, are expected to be completed in twenty-four (24) months.
Upon completion, the Kwabeng District Hospital will have the following staff offices; outpatient department and public health wing; surgical room consisting of an operating room, a recovery room and a sterilization unit; delivery unit and neonatal intensive care unit (NICU); laboratory, pharmacy and radiography; forty (40) bed room for men, women and pediatrics; services block containing laundry, warehouses and a cold room; and staff accommodation.
Other components of the project package include the supply and installation of medical equipment; 1 year warranty and maintenance after completion; and a training component for staff.
