Ghana has not recorded a single case of cholera since President Akufo-Addo took office in 2017, said the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Abena Dapaah.

According to her, the president has eradicated the disease from the country.

During the approval of her ministry’s 2019 budget execution report, Ms Dapaah argued that the management of the nuclear power plant is expanding the water supply to many households and dealing with unsanitary conditions that lead to diseases such as cholera.

She said: “I think the picture will be totally different when the 2020 performance report is made. Because in minutes, the government of the current president of the republic, his mandate will give us the amount of water that we have never had in this country. ”.

“Only the Tamale water project will pass 30,000 cubic meters of water, we will be adding 135,000 cubic meters of water. It is the largest water system that we will install in Tamale, ”he said.

In a contribution, the chairman of the board of Ghana Water Company Ltd, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, argued that the Nana Addo administration has invested heavily in sanitation, especially in disadvantaged communities.

He said: “If today, after the evaluation, it has been established that the funds allocated to the ministry were not abused, but that the people benefited from these funds, then I will agree with the honorable minority leader that it is necessary to carry out more budget allocations. Because it has been put to good use and without a doubt, with this commendable effort from the ministry, we will all support the Minister of Finance when he returns home to ask for more money to invest in the water area ”.

“Tono’s water system is up and running. I was there when the grass was cut and the contractors are working. Yendi, Tamale has been there for many years. This government prioritizes it and today I am glad that it has been summoned ”.

Former Deputy Minister of Works and Housing Sampson Ahi accused the Effutu MP of not appreciating the efforts of the former Mahama administration in providing water and sanitation.

“The chairman of the board of Ghana Water Company Limited spoke about the extension of distribution networks in the water sector and mentioned some communities in Greater Accra where they benefited from this expansion project. What he did not add is the source of financing for all these extensions. “

He added: “I know that he is aware that we obtained 48 million dollars from the World Bank to undertake this expansion and change of obsolete pipelines, equipment in the water sector and thus we started the program. Go to Medina, go to Adenta, we expanded the pipes to cover all those places. “

“So they went in and continued with the distribution network and I thought it would be fair on their part to congratulate the previous government for having started the extension of oil pipelines in newly developed communities. So that I can go ahead and praise the current government, but keep silent as president of the board I thought it is not fair, “he concluded.
