Akufo-Addo expresses the condolences of the families of 15 who died in a collapsed church building

President Nana Akufo-Addo has sympathized with the families of the people who died in the collapsed church building in Akyem Batabi in the Eastern Region.

In a message on Twitter on Thursday, he said: “On behalf of the Government and the people of Ghana, I send my condolences to the families of the 15 people who tragically lost their lives in the church building that collapsed in Akim Batabi. near Oda. I wish the 8 injured people a speedy recovery. “

This comes after a six-story church building collapsed as worshipers numbering about 60 gathered to pray at the Church of Prosperity on Tuesday.

On Wednesday, disaster management agencies and volunteers exhumed nine bodies from the rubble.

Among them is Afia Tameklo, 60, who was reportedly killed by a pillar falling while trying to escape.

The Founder of the church, Prophet Akoa Isaac, was detained by Akim Oda Divisional Police Command after the incident.

As of Thursday afternoon, the number of bodies recovered from the rubble had risen to 17.

Several others are in the government hospital there receiving treatment after suffering varying degrees of injuries.
