President Akufo-Addo on Saturday commissioned Ghana’s first micro power generating station, located in Tsatsadu, Alavanyo, in the Hohoe constituency of the Volta region.

Describing the ceremony as “a happy day for the people of Alavanyo and myself,” President Akufo-Addo noted that the 45kw Tsatsadu hydroelectric plant “will provide power for rapid economic development in Alavanyo.”

The origins of the project date back to 2005, when the Ministry of Energy, under the government of President John Agyekum Kufuor, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the International Network on Small Hydroelectric Plants. from China. (IN-SHP) to carry out studies aimed at developing the potential of Small Hydroelectric Plants in the country.

According to the president, before the project could be operational at 22 identified sites, the nuclear power plant lost the 2008 elections and, “like many other important initiatives of the Kufuor government, this project was also abandoned.”

Upon taking office in 2017, he told the Tsatsadu meeting that he ordered the Energy Ministry, together with the Bui Power Authority, to redevelop hydroelectric plants, including the Tsatsasu one.

In fact, the Tsatsadu project was initially designed as a stand-alone 30 kW system, but was redesigned and upgraded to a 45 kW grid tie system based on the results of additional studies.

Since the project was undertaken solely by Ghanaians, President Akufo-Addo stated that the construction of the power plant had no adverse impact on the environment, adding that since its energy source is green, it will have no carbon emissions. .

The President assured the Togbega of Alavanyo that the road that leads to the Tsatsadu Generating Station is “under active development and will be done”, highlighting that “in fact, Alavanyo, it will be fine.”

Praising Energy Minister John-Peter Amewu, who is the PNP parliamentary candidate for Hohoe, for his role in helping to cement peace in Alavanyo, President Akufo-Addo stated that “all this means that the time has come to undergo a change, and come to sit on the elephant’s back. “

The President therefore urged the residents of Tsatsadu, Alavanyo, and indeed Hohoe to vote en masse for him and John-Peter Amewu, “so that we can do more for you.”
