On Friday, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo commissioned the 160-bed Twifo Atti-Morkwa District Hospital in the Central Region to help provide quality healthcare.

The ultra-modern hospital has state-of-the-art facilities and is expected to serve more than 30,000 people in the district and its adjacent communities to improve access to reliable healthcare services.

It was funded by Euroget-De Invest (EDI), a company based in Turkey, which signed an agreement with the Ministries of Health and Interior in 2010 to obtain funds to initially build eight hospitals in the country.

The facility has a mini-market, laundry and kitchen services, a dining room, and a housing block for nursing mothers.

These are all part of the standard complementary facilities that include two high-tech power plants to ensure an uninterrupted power supply, an ambulance station for emergency services, sewage and medical waste treatment plants, and a supply system and water treatment.

It has an Administration Block, Outpatient Department, Physiotherapy Unit, Radiology Laboratory, Medical Justice Production Unit, Maternal and Child Health Center, Morgue, Staff Canteen, Maintenance Department, Power Plant and Housing for 20 employees.

It is one of the nine hospital projects to be built in different parts of the country with credit funds arranged by EDI through the international money market and guaranteed by the Government.

In commissioning the project, President Akufo-Addo said the facility was part of the broader goal of providing infrastructure for the delivery of effective healthcare to citizens.

The project, started by former President John Agyekum Kufuor in 2008, was part of the ‘Ghana Hospitals Project’ and the fifth to be commissioned across the country, he said.

The opening of the Upper West Regional Hospital, the Ahafo Ano Municipal Hospital and the Ga East Municipal Hospital, which served as one of the country’s leading Covid-19 treatment centers, followed.

The “Ghana Hospital Project” comprises the design, construction and equipping of a military hospital, two regional hospitals and six district hospitals at a cost of $ 339 million.

The President mentioned other hospitals that are being built under this Project to include: a 250-bed Regional Hospital in Sewua in the Bosomtwe District; Municipal Hospital of 60 beds in Salaga in the EastGonja Municipality and Municipal Hospital of 60 beds in Konongo in the Central Municipality of Asante-Akim.

Mr. Kwaku Agyemeng-Manu, Minister of Health, said that the Mechanism complements efforts to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in health and education.

“The project reinforces Ghana’s commitment to accelerate efforts to achieve Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030 in accordance with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs),” he said.

He expressed his confidence in the government’s efforts to grow the economy, maintain the National Health Insurance Plan, employ more than 90,000 health personnel, and drastically reduce unemployment.

Dr. Said Deraz, President and CEO of Euroget De-Invest SA, expressed the hope that the Hospital, equipped with ultra-modern equipment, will contribute greatly to providing quality medical care to the good people of the area.

“Euroget De-Invest is here to ensure the long-term sustainability of this beautiful building that we are delivering to the country today,” Deraz said, promising that the company would deliver the other projects on schedule.

“We want to assure you of our commitment to deliver the rest of the hospitals to the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Defense with the same high level of quality as this hospital,” he said.

He said that while construction experienced its fair share of challenges, support from the Ministries of Health and Finance and the Ghana Revenue Authority helped the company overcome those challenges.

Obrempong Appiah Nuamah II, an Omanhene from the traditional Twifo Mampong area and a member of the State Council, praised the president’s exemplary leadership style that culminated in monumental development across the country.
