President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s approval rating dropped slightly by 10 points in the Third Wave of the Ghana Election Poll, which was conducted from August 1 to September 31, 2020.

Disapproval of his job as president went from 58% in August to 71% in September. Also, fewer people were insecure or neutral in their performance rating by 3 points.

The scientific survey that was carried out online through the renowned market research firm MSI-ACI had 2,246 responses from Ghanaians, slightly more than the 2,055 responses recorded in Wave Two.

Based on political affiliation, nearly all respondents who are NDC / Lean NDC disapprove of the president’s performance, while those who are NPP / Lean NPP are split almost equally between approving and disapproving of their job performance. However, those who are not affiliated with any party disapprove of the president’s work by a significant 71%.

Disapproval of the president’s job performance affects the top 5 regions of the country. The president’s approval rating averages 21% in the 5 selected regions.

Men and women disapprove of the president’s job performance by 69% and 74% respectively, while their approval rating is 26% and 18% respectively. Disapproval of the president’s job performance affects all selected age groups, and his approval rating averages 22% across all age groups.

More than 90 percent of those surveyed lived in Ghana and the rest in countries such as South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya, the Central African Republic and Algeria. At least half of the respondents said they did not belong to any political party, while those who are NDC / Lean NDC and those who are NPP / Lean NPP were 25% and 21%, respectively.

The full sample results have a margin of sampling error (with finite population correction) of plus or minus 2,068%. A representative sample of Ghana’s population of 28,956,587 (population projection as indicated on page 6 of the Ghana Living Standards Survey (GLSS 7)) was obtained by weighting (matching) the data according to age and demographics of gender from the 2010 population and housing census and the GLSS 7.

The Ghana Election Poll is powered by GhanaWeb and the Africa Consumer Panel, which is a cooperation between digital publisher Africa Business Communities and the renowned market research firm MSI-ACI.

The online survey is conducted every month and the results are posted at the beginning of every two months on GhanaWeb.com. It is spam-free, as respondents can only take the survey once. The MSI-ACI platform hosting the survey registers the device on which the respondent conducts the survey and does not allow a second attempt from the same device.

Ghana’s electoral poll is different from the open access poll that is conducted on GhanaWeb. The latter allows participants to self-select to participate and its results cannot be generalized because it is a representative only of the survey participants.
