The two-way system for high school freshmen and juniors will end when classes resume on January 18.

President Akufo-Addo, in his latest update on Ghana’s handling of the coronavirus pandemic, attributed this development to improved infrastructure.

“I must emphasize that SHS 3 students in all schools, like SHS 1 students, will no longer run the dual track system. The expansion of the infrastructure in the different secondary schools, in the last three years, has led us to this favorable situation ”, he stated.

However, the dual track system will continue to be applicable to SHS 2 students in schools that employ it, the president noted.

The policy is only being adopted in schools that are in high demand across the country as the government works to improve infrastructure.

It was meant to ease student pressure on some public schools.

The two-way system was accompanied by a semester system for schools.

The semi-annual system will be maintained even when the adequate infrastructure is established and the two-way system is completed.

Although the government set a term of five to seven years on the policy that the Democratic National Congress (NDC) had plan to terminate the policy in one year if he won power in the 2020 elections.

The policy was heavily criticized by the opposition and some other observers who felt it was compromising the quality of education.

President Akufo-Addo used this speech to announce the resumption of the school at all levels of education following the cessation of academic activity in March 2020.

Starting on January 15, our kindergarten, elementary and middle school children, both in private and public schools, will resume school.

All SHS 1 students will start classes on March 10, but their seniors in SHS 2 and SHS 3 will return to school on January 18.

Students from universities and other colleges must be in school beginning Saturday, January 9.
