The 24-year-old Anglo-Nigerian revealed why he teamed up with Neil Warnock’s English Championship team from PAOK Thessaloniki

Chuba Akpom has revealed his reasons for joining PAOK Thessaloniki’s Middlesbrough English Championship team.

After two seasons in the Greek Super League, the former Arsenal player moved to the Riverside Stadium team for an undisclosed fee following successful medical tests.

Thus, it becomes the fourth summer signing of Neil Warnock after Sam Morsy, Marcus Bettinelli and Grant Hall. There, he will bond with his former partner Britt Assombalonga.

According to the former English international of Nigerian descent, the dream of playing in the Premier League prompted his decision, as well as the role played by manager Warnock.

“It’s an incredible feeling to sign, everyone knows the history of Boro,” Akpom said on his club’s website.

“Hopefully we can push for promotion, I know that is the goal of the team and I hope I can help with that.

“When a team like Middlesbrough comes in, you don’t need to convince much, it’s a top club.”

He also stated that his experience in Greece would be useful to him and he believes it can increase the depth of quality on the Boro frontline.

“I felt like I needed it. It was like a refreshment for me, a different style of football, a different culture, everything different really,” he continued.

“To come back here I am more motivated and I’m sure it will turn out well.

“I know the league, I was here with Hull and Brighton when they got promoted so I hope I can push the team forward.”

He added: “The coach sounded very convincing, he has a plan and all the players have to do is work hard and follow his vision.

“I’m ready to meet him and I’m ready to go to work.

“It’s a good team, we have some good forwards. We can all push each other, that’s how it should be. There are a lot of games in the Championship so there isn’t always a starting eleven. I’m ready to join them, I can’t wait. “

For the 2020-21 campaign, Akpom will wear jersey no. 10 worn by young Englishman Marcus Browne last quarter.

It could make its debut when Middlesbrough travels to Loftus Road on Saturday for a date with Bright Osayi-Samuel’s Queens Park Rangers.
