Airline crew, children under five years old, excluded from mandatory tests

Ghana Health Service Director Dr. Patrick Kumah-Aboagye has announced that children under five years of age, aircrew and transit passengers will not be screened for Covid-19 at Kotoka International Airport (KIA ).

“There are exemptions with the mandatory test… .Children under five years old will not be evaluated because the risk is low, aircrew and transit passengers who do not need to enter the country will not be subjected to the mandatory test at the airport,” he said. .

Dr. Kumah-Aboagye said this at a press conference to outline the details of the measures implemented before the resumption of air travel in Ghana on Monday in Accra.

In his 16th address to the nation on Sunday, President Akufo-Addo said that the country’s air borders will open as of Tuesday, September 1, 20202.

He said that as part of the requirements, each passenger arriving in Ghana must possess proof of a negative Covid-19 PCR test.

He added that as part of the measures implemented by the government for the resumption of the trip, each passenger will undergo a mandatory Covid-19 test at the airport terminal, the results of which will be available in thirty minutes.

Backing the point, the director general of Ghana’s health service said aircrew, transit passengers and children under the age of five will not be screened.

He also advised departing passengers to observe the mandatory use of the mask protocol.

“For our departing passengers, as usual, the mandatory mask must be observed, in accordance with the destination rules that we have. Passengers in transit who are not required to enter the country will not be subject to the mandatory test at the airport unless they enter Ghana prior to departure. “

Dr. Kumah-Aboagye further stated that those who test positive will be sent to Ga East Hospital to be evaluated, after which the necessary protocols, treatment, isolation, among others, will be instituted for all of them.
