The Rev. Dr. Grace Sintim Adasi has assumed the role of 17th Director of the Agogo Presbyterian Women’s Education College (APWCE) with a commitment to building on the legacies of her predecessors.
In an induction ceremony to take her into office, Dr. Adasi assured stakeholders of her commitment to provide visionary leadership to make the University an institution of excellence for years to come.
She said her immediate focus is to work closely with the Governing Council to develop the College’s five-year strategic plan to guide the judicious use of College resources in priority areas.
“Another critical area of collaboration will be with other sister institutions to promote exchange programs and strengthen internships to improve best practices and share experiences,” he said.
The new principal also announced her intention to establish a vibrant Guidance and Counseling Center to serve as a support service for adult learners to overcome the difficult task of combining education and family life.
The Center, he said, would be run by highly trained professionals to help students overcome deep-seated emotional challenges and offer them comprehensive training, intellectually and psychologically to be in a position to educate the next generation.
“I intend to implement an effective monitoring and supervision system that verifies quality. This will include the verification of the attendance to classes of both teachers and students, the number of exercises, tests and tasks assigned to the students, ”Dr. Adasi also assured.
She said that in anticipation of the increase in enrollment due to the free upper secondary school policy, the administration would upgrade and expand the facilities at the university to accommodate the large number of students.
In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic, the director said, the university would invest in technology to improve and facilitate teaching and learning.
Dr. Adasi also ensured that the College would hire the right caliber of academic staff to produce teachers with teaching at heart. “I will ensure that the school recruits academically astute, morally upright and motivated teachers,” he promised.
Ms. Theodosia Jackson, Director of the Jackson College of Education (JCE), said Dr. Adasi’s appointment is a testament to how women are contributing to national development in all sectors of the economy.
Ms. Jackson said that the leadership qualities of women in shaping public institutions over the years are not in doubt and called for more leadership roles to be given to women, especially to stimulate them and inspire excellence. in the young.
He applauded the government for the implementation of the Free Upper Secondary Education Policy and urged future governments to maintain and improve it to ensure access to education for Ghanaian children.
Ms. Jackson also called on the government to review the taxes paid by private tertiary institutions that are also training Ghanaian children to improve access to the tertiary level.
