Cape Coast, September 6, 2020. The information collected this morning indicates that a 12-year-old boy has jumped from the balcony of the second floor of block B floor 7 in Ayikoo Ayikoo in Cape Coast.

The sad incident occurred around 6 a.m. on Sunday, September 6, 2020.

Ayikoo Ayikoo Apartments are two-story government buildings located in Ayikoo Ayikoo Ayikoo on the Cape Coast. Thus, the ground floor, first floor and second floor. It is said that the boy jumped from the second floor of the seventh floor to the ground.

Speaking to a witness at the scene and also to a member of the victim’s flat, he said he was sitting on his balcony getting some fresh air. The narration continued that he had heard a scream at dawn but never knew it was coming from his block. He added that he only saw the boy hanging on the parapet of the balcony and yelled at him to stop, but unfortunately the boy let go of his hand and fell to the ground.

Other information gathered while speaking to other eyewitnesses within the neighborhood indicates that the 12-year-old boy is a stepson of the women he lives with. Visibly outraged community members who have accused of attacking the lady narrated to me that because the child is the lady’s stepson, she and the husband have bonded and beat the child too much. According to them, this is what has forced the boy to jump to escape more beatings.

As at the time this writer got the scene to check things out for himself, there were many floors where the boy had supposedly fallen. Some women had rushed with stones trying to break into the floor to attack the child’s stepmother.

At the time of preparing this report, the police had arrived and took the lady away.

The boy is said to have been sent to Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
