The ruling New Patriotic Party (PNP) is expected to keep Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the deputy from Suame, as its leader in Parliament.
His deputy, however, will change from Sarah Adwoa Safo, MP for Dome Kwabenya, to Alex Afenyo-Markin, MP for Effutu.
According to Citi News sources, changes are also expected in the remaining areas of the NPP’s parliamentary leadership.
The Chief Whip position has been reserved for Mark Annoh Dompreh, the MP from Nsawam-Adoagyiri.
It is currently in the hands of Kwasi Ameyaw-Cheremeh, the deputy from Sunyani East.
Mr Dompreh’s MPs will be Tolon MP Habib Iddrisu and Mfantsiman MP Ophelia Hayford, followed by Matthew Nyindam, Kpandai MP and Moses Anim, Trobu MP who held those positions in the current Parliament.
Ghana was left with Parliament hanging after the 2020 elections.
Unlike 2016, where the PNP won a record majority with 169 seats in Parliament, the ruling party’s representation was reduced to 137 seats in Parliament.
The NDC equaled the NPP by also winning 137 seats in Parliament, the highest proportion of seats held by an opposition party in Ghana’s fourth republic.
Both parties were joined by an independent candidate, Andrew Amoako Asiamah, who won the Fomena seat.
Asiamah has said that he will join the PNP to form a majority in Parliament despite being expelled from the Party because he decided to run as an independent candidate.
There are also questions about whether the NPP could end the majority.
An interim court order was granted that prevented the Election Commission from appointing John Peter Amewu of the PNP as a deputy for Hohoe following a lawsuit brought by residents of Guan district who did not have the opportunity to vote in the parliamentary elections.
Eligible voters within the areas in the newly created district, namely Santrofi, Akpafu, Likpe and Lolobi, were only allowed to participate in the presidential elections on December 7, 2020.
