Ghana have qualified for the 2021 African Cup of Nations U-20 quarter-finals despite losing their final group match 2-1 to The Gambia on Monday night.
The Black Satellites are ranked as one of the top two third-finishers and will face Cameroon in the knockout phase.
Karim Zito’s side started out brilliantly. Abdul Fatawu Issahaku threw the ball brilliantly into the net from approximately 25 yards in the 9th minute.
The Gambia pushed for the equalizer and won it in the 16th minute. Kajally Drammeh cleverly put himself on the blind side of the Ghana centrals and nodded with a perfectly weighted cross.
After drawing at the level, the Gambia took control of the game, creating a series of chances.
In the 34th minute, Lamarana Jallow completed the return with a low free kick from the edge of the area.
Ghana came close to leveling things out a few minutes later. A good cut found an open Percious Boah who shot straight at the rival goalkeeper.
In the latter part of the second half, the Black Satellites advanced desperate for a goal.
They were given a life jacket after Camara was sent off in the 83rd minute for wasting time.
Despite strong momentum from Ghana after the incident, The Gambia was able to hold out the victory.
Ghana has secured their qualification to the quarterfinals as one of the best third-finishers. The Gambia has also ranked second.
