The Black Satellites boss looks forward to Thursday’s meeting with the young Indomitable Lions.
Ghana coach Abdul Karim Zito has stated that his team is not spooked by Cameroon’s 100 percent record in Thursday’s quarter-final match at the ongoing U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Mauritania.
The two teams are set for a showdown at the Stade Olympique de Nouakchott in what will be the first round of 16 match of the competition.
While the Black Satellites narrowly advanced to the quarter-finals as one of the best third in the group stage after a win, a draw and a loss, the young Indomitable Lions won all three matches to finish top of Group A.
“Cameroon is a football nation just like we are. Our games are unpredictable. We are going to win. We will make many amendments to our game and we will make sure that we win the game,” Zito said in the pre-match conference. On Wednesday.
“We know they are the only team with a 100 percent record so far in the competition, but any Ghana and Cameroon are not easy.
“Football has its dos and don’ts and there are factors that affect performance. The weather affected us because we had little time to acclimatize to the weather. But despite all the factors, we are ready to qualify.
“We have also made our guys aware that when you play for Ghana, they must be ready to play well at all times.
“We have also reminded them that they can add their names to Ghana’s history as the team that qualified for Ghana in the Afcon U20 this year and stood out.”
Ghana will have to dispense with Wafa midfielder Sampson Agyepong against Cameroon due to health problems after suffering a concussion in Matchday 2’s clash with Morocco. That’s just one of the many concerns of Satellites coach Zito.
“We had some injury situations. Four players suffered blows in the last match. And from the advice we received from our doctors, they may not be able to play Cameroon,” he said.
Ghana opened the tournament with a huge 4-0 win over Tanzania before settling for a 0-0 draw with Morocco. In their last group match, the Satellites gave up a lead to end 2-1 losers to The Gambia, finishing third in the table.
Zito’s charges seek the nation’s fourth title in the championship.
