– The Minister of the Interior has warned to bring to justice those responsible for the electoral violence.
– Scattered cases of post-election violence in Techiman South reported his warning.
– Former President Mahama has not yet accepted the result of the elections.
Interior Minister Ambrose Dery has re-emphasized his previous position of ruthlessly treating the person or persons found guilty in the electoral violence during the December elections.
Citing the case of Techiman South and other places where people have lost their lives, he said that an investigation is under way to arrest the perpetrators of the heinous crime. He said President Akufo-Addo has instructed him to ensure that the rule of law works with respect to the fundamental rights of all concerned.
John Mahama’s defeat in the recent elections has sparked outbreaks of protests by NDC supporters across the country and parts of the world.
Recently, some Ghanaians in Washington DC have protested the election results. Holding up signs reading “Let’s vote Mahama,” these staunch supporters of the former president are demanding the reversal of the results of the 2020 elections.
So far, John Dramani Mahama has called for an independent audit of all Pink Sheets from the various polling stations in the country. Recently, he told Election Commission observers that he will gladly admit defeat if the audit is conducted.
The opposition NDC has also challenged the electoral commission to make public copies of pink sheets of the official statement of results of the Techiman Sur constituency.
The NDC insists that it won the parliamentary race in the constituency where 2 people were shot and killed during the elections.
Minority leader Haruna Iddrisu says all attempts to get the commission to hand over the declaration sheets to the party have been unsuccessful. He alleges that the fact that the commission did not produce the declared results is an indication that the commission manipulated the figures in favor of the ruling nuclear power plant.
“I am challenging the president of the Election Commission, the regional director of the EC of Bono East and the teller of Techiman South to make public any results that they have declared for the constituency, we demand that in the name of transparency we know what it is that NPP or NDC obtained from each other. We just can’t find the results. It means that their open house involves robberies and disrespect for Ghanaian laws, ”he demanded.
Meanwhile, the Supreme Head of the Techiman Traditional Area in the East Bono Region, Oseadeeyo Akumfi Ameyaw, has condemned the shooting incident that resulted in the death of two people in the area during the recently concluded elections. He observed that under no circumstances should innocent citizens be shot and killed in the way that happened in Techiman.
The election results declared by the official returning to the president, Jean Mensa, confirm that John Mahama was unable to obtain 50 votes plus one. The results show that John Mahama got 6,214,889 while Nana Addo got 6,730,413 votes.
The opposition NDC has fiercely rejected the election results. John Mahama has described it as flawed and manipulated. Party supporters have also protested at the Electoral Commission headquarters on several occasions against the results.
Political scientists from the Department of Political Science at the University of Ghana argue that forming a parallel government is unconstitutional. Such acts can even trigger treason crimes.
The news director of the newspaper crusader guide says that the results of the presidential and parliamentary elections have been gazette. He believes that only a Supreme Court ruling will be needed to reverse the election results.
In Joy News, the political commentator condemned John Mahama for not accepting the election results. He wonders why the same EC results that he accepted in the 206 elections are now being contested in 2020.
The international community has congratulated Ghana on the peaceful elections. A special convoy from the European Union (EU) also described the elections as generally peaceful.
