Zamalek SC take the lead in the CAF Champions League semifinal tie after beating Raja Club Athletic in the first leg.

Raja suffered a 1-0 loss at the hands of the White Knights on Sunday.

Achraf Bencharki made the difference at Complexe Sportif Mohamed V of Casablanca as he scored the only goal of the match.

Zamalek survived an early penalty appeal when Mahmoud El Wensh shoved Soufiane Rahimi into the box and wanted a penalty.

The White Knights elbowed the lead in the 18th minute, with Ahmed Sayed Zizo’s cross from the right perfectly aimed at the far post, where Bencharki rose well to head into the net.

Soufiane Rahimi almost got the equalizer with a header from Fabrice Ngoma’s cross that nearly slipped on Moroccan champion Raja’s goal in the 42nd minute.

The hosts made several attempts to equalize but Zamalek goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal prevented them with impressive saves.

Zamalek will host Raja at the Cairo International Stadium on Saturday, October 24, 2020 for the second leg.
