Through Coursera for Campus and Coursera’s Coronavirus Response Initiative,
Accra Technical University students and staff will gain free access to more than 3,800 courses from the world’s best university and industry educators.

Accra Technical University will switch to online blended learning as of September 21, 2020. This extraordinary online education affects all courses, so 10,000 students and University staff will have free access to their own Learning Platform. Coursera students from Accra Technical University through Coursera’s Coronavirus Response Initiative. which provides all affected universities worldwide with a set of free licenses for Coursera’s course catalog to offer students multidisciplinary and job-relevant online learning.

Coursera, the world’s leading online platform, was founded by Stanford professors Daphne Koller and Andrew Ng with a vision to bring life-transforming learning experiences to anyone, anywhere. Today, more than 60 million students around the world use Coursera to learn the skills of the future. Coursera offers over 3,800 courses from 200 of the world’s best university and industry educators, including Yale University and the University of London, as well as major companies such as Google and IBM.

“COVID-19 has impacted higher education institutions around the world, altering the lives of more than 1.4 billion students in 156 countries. At this critical time, higher education institutions must work together to rapidly adopt digital courses and address the needs of their students online, ”said Leah Belsky, Director of Business at Coursera. “We are honored to partner with Accra Technical University, which is setting an example during this difficult time by supporting students with online learning and enabling the smooth continuation of their studies.”

Covering popular college topics like engineering, business, data science, health, and the arts, Coursera’s courses and guided projects are divided into weekly modules with video and reading lessons. Course performance is assessed through quizzes and peer assignments, and students receive a certificate upon completion.

Coursera courses will complement current Accra Technical University curricula with curation of courses including the African Association of Universities Seven Skills for Success, Coursera Data Skills Academy for Machine Learning from the Data Literacy, Artificial Intelligence, as well as the combination of core courses to curate course collections that provide a substitute for on-campus courses that cannot be taught in person at the moment.

According to the Acting Vice Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, the University approached Coursera to support its development of online learning as a strategic objective in the University Institutional Development Plan in the wake of the COVID pandemic. -19. which has had an impact on their educational activities. This partnership, he said, “means that both students and teachers will benefit from a library of high-quality instructional materials from a host of Coursera partners.” Students can even go ahead to learn and acquire new skills on their own. ” He added that “the objective of this association is to provide broad support for the implementation of extraordinary online learning. The medium-term objective of this collaboration is to promote the integration of some of Coursera’s courses also in university curricula ”.
