It is in this context that the Academic City University College (ACITY), located in Haatso Accra, has launched a 4-year bachelor’s degree. Robotics Engineering Program to meet the growing, demanding and changing dynamics of today’s world.
The program is deliberately designed to play comfortably at the intersection of artificial intelligence and biomedical engineering, providing further impetus to new programs in advanced autonomous systems and data analysis.
Rapid advances in technology have led to increased public interest in robotics and biomedicine.
The government of Ghana has endeavored to drive change and development in various aspects of national life.
It is generally recognized that promoting technological advancement in all sectors is key to facilitating the country’s development.
The initiative is to support the government’s effort to drive technology for national growth.
With this approach, the ACITY intends to create a versatile graduate who is familiar with a wide area of robotics, while also being prepared for research in the rapidly evolving field of robotics.
According to Dr. Fred McBagonluri, President of Academic City College, the introduction of the formed robotic engineering program is part of our efforts to develop a cadence of engineering programs that will continue to push the boundaries of knowledge while establishing a foothold for our students in jobs-of-the-future.
He was addressing the press at the official launch of the BSc. Robotics Engineering Program on the Haatso campus.
“Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI), our strategic partner in this program, has had a robotics and research program for more than 30 years and developed the first robotics undergraduate program. He revealed that the Robotics program places an emphasis on design, analysis and modeling, programming, Artificial Intelligence (AI) integration, and manufacturing.
Furthermore, the government of Ghana has effectively expressed the need to industrialize. This government effort will require the design, development, and deployment of robotic systems and pertinent operational logistics that graduates of this program could support. Also, robotics clubs are springing up in Ghana with no opportunities in our universities for students to follow those courses. We run the risk of losing those children to opportunities abroad. ”
The aim of the Bachelor of Robotics Engineering program is to train students in the principles and practices of robotics to enable them to design, analyze, implement and maintain technological solutions in a wide range of fields of applications of human activity (e.g. agriculture , medicine and healthcare). , automotive, mining, aerospace, electronics and computing, chemical, telecommunications, textile, etc.).
The objectives of the Bachelor of Robotics Engineering is to develop the next generation of engineering students with the ability:
• Conceptualize, design, develop and produce modern engineering systems by drawing knowledge from a set of comprehensive multidisciplinary engineering tools.
• Use a foundation of principles and practices in robotics, controls, and artificial intelligence to enable them to design, analyze, implement and maintain technological solutions in a wide range of fields of human activity.
• Be competent and ethical engineers capable of analyzing technical requirements and applying their knowledge in a highly professional manner for the benefit of society.
• Practice lifelong learning through research, education, and ongoing professional development.
Addressing the future of employment, Dr. McBagonluri posited that robotic engineering can generate potential career opportunities in manufacturing, research and engineering, agriculture, mining, space exploration, power plant maintenance, and a variety of other areas.
