Faced with the restrictions imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Executive and Business Committee (BEC) of the Academic Board of the University of Ghana, Legon has presented its proposal for the reopening of the 2020/21 academic year.
The proposal includes a modular system for teaching and learning, an online teaching and learning portal, access to IT resources on campus, and details of the academic calendar for the year.
For the 2020/21 academic year, undergraduate courses will be conducted primarily online, and according to the statement, “The regular 13 weeks of teaching are expected to be delivered over a period of 6 weeks per session, with at least the double contact hours a week ”.
The proposal further establishes that, although the teaching will be taught mainly online, the practical and ethical course will be taught face-to-face, respecting the required Covid-19 prevention and safety protocols.

Regarding the use of academic facilities and accommodation on campus, “the University will be open to students who require access, as well as those who wish to stay on campus.”
Additionally, students would report to school in batches.
Continuing regular students at levels 200 and 400 would resume one semester earlier than their peers at levels 100 and 300.
The first semester of the 2020/21 academic year begins in November 2020 for students at level 200 and 400, while that for students at level 100 and 300 begins in February 2021.
Graduate and distance learning students will resume teaching and learning before the end of the year.
In the statement signed by the Registrar, Mercy Haizel-Ashia, several schools dependent on the university, such as the School of Medicine, the School of Dentistry, the School of Biomedical and Allied Sciences, the School of Nursing and Midwifery, the School of Veterinary Medicine and the School of Law will have different start dates due to the peculiarity of their programs.
