AC Milan scores late draw against Manchester United as Dean Henderson makes costly mistake

THEGunnar Solskjaer is still hoping to convince Edinson Cavani to extend his stay at Manchester United despite the forward’s father suggesting he is ready to leave the club this summer.

After leaving Paris St Germain as his all-time top scorer, the 34-year-old free agent moved to Old Trafford in October and signed a contract until the end of the season with the option of one more year.

Cavani has scored seven goals in 25 appearances to date and Solskjaer has made no secret of his desire to keep him at the club next season, although the player’s father has indicated that this is unlikely.

Luis Cavani reportedly said there was a 60 percent chance that his son would return to South America because “he doesn’t feel comfortable where he is,” and mentioned Boca Juniors as a possible destination.

The Uruguayan international later posted a photo on Instagram of him playing for the club with the caption “proud to wear this jersey” – a jersey Solskjaer hopes he will wear in the future.

“Well Edinson is completely focused on being available to us and working very hard to get in shape,” said the United manager.

“Because of my bad Portuguese and his better English, he is very proud to play for Manchester United. He will always do his best while (he is here).

“If he is also past this season, no decision has been made. As we have said, he has made a great contribution so far.

“We are just working to get him back on the pitch and in shape, and we will convince him when the weather improves in Manchester!”

Cavani will miss another United game on Thursday when AC Milan arrives at Old Trafford for a mouth-watering Europa League round of 16 clash.

Marcus Rashford is set to join the veteran on the bench for the first leg, having been forced to withdraw towards the end of Sunday’s impressive 2-0 win against Premier League leaders Manchester City by an ankle problem.

“I’m not sure if anyone will come back, no,” Solskjaer said before facing Milan, who can play on loan Diogo Dalot against his parent club.

“David (De Gea) is not available. Donny (Van De Beek), no. Paul (Pogba), no. Edinson, maybe but probably not. Juan (Mata), no. And Marcus maybe, but probably not” .

“So, similar to Sunday, but maybe we’ve lost Marcus.

“I don’t think he will be available for tomorrow. He is still receiving treatment, but he did not join the training today.

“Although I’m usually a very optimistic guy, I still think he’s out tomorrow night and probably a doubt for the weekend.”
