AC Milan secured their passage to the Europa League round of 32 with a 4-2 win over Celtic at Stadio San Siro on Thursday.
The Rossoneri were behind early goals from Tom Rogic and Odsonne Edouard, but they defended excellently to equalize before the break, courtesy of a free kick by Hakan Calhanoglu and a goal by Samu Castillejo.
After the break, victory was sealed thanks to the individual brilliance of Jens Petter Hauge as the Norwegian pushed his way through the defense to score a good goal, before placing Brahim Diaz at the end to send Milan.
Milan show their Europa League credentials
It is proving to be a very enjoyable season for the Rossoneros as Milan are unbeaten at the top of Serie A and have qualified from the Europa League Group Stage with a match to spare.
Milan’s internal dominance and their excellent comeback against Celtic is proof that they can be considered among the heavyweights of the competition and favorites to lift the trophy.
Few teams will enjoy heading to the San Siro and Milan’s form and strength make them a true Europa League player. It remains to be seen how much focus they can afford to put in if they are in the thick of a Scudetto career, but this season is a good chance to return some European glory to the club.
Hauge’s hiring goes well again
At just € 5 million, winger Hauge looks like an increasingly astute business for Milan and the Norwegian made his mark against Celtic with a magnificent display, culminating in a goal and an assist.
The 21-year-old caught the eye of Bodo / Glimt during a preliminary qualifying tie against Milan this season, prompting the Rossoneri to pounce for him, and their displays suggest they have a gem on their hands.
With 20 dribbles and 26 positive passes, Hauge was on the front foot and caused endless trouble for Celtic’s backline, particularly when he cut in to jump through a multitude of bodies into the box. A good performance was worthy of a good goal, and his individual effort was no less than he deserved.
